About Us
Matt Baiamonte, was a protege of Angelo Dundee since 2000 til his death in 2012. Many famous boxing trainers have moaned that the art of developing a fighter is not longer being passed on. The pair of Angelo Dundee and Matt Baiamonte are an exception to that rule. Matt Baiamonte grew up in New York, the Mecca of Boxing. After his parents divorced, he moved to south Florida with his mom for 2 years. Missing New York, Matt moved back for a short time. Matt eventually moved back to Florida in 1991 and met and befriended Nate Brown, the trainer for Heavyweight contender Donovan "Razor" Ruddock. Brown took Matt to the boxing gym, where Matt began to learn the fine art of boxing. Matt soon found out that Angelo Dundee was training one of his many Champions Micheal "Second To" Nunn only minutes from his home in Hallandale, he then got in his car and sped over to meet the legendary trainer.
In 1998 Matt met a boxer named Roar Petajamaa who re-introduced Baiamonte to the finest boxing trainer of all-time, the legendary Angelo Dundee. Angelo Dundee trained 15 world champions including "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali, at his famed Fifth Street Gym. Angelo was kind enough to show Matt the ropes and impart to him methods he had used with his fighters. Matt's friend Trevor Cedar opened up a boxing gym in Miami Beach around this time period. Matt introduced Trevor to Angelo and that is when things began to really take off for Matt. As a protegee of Angelo Dundee since 2000, Matt continues to use Angelo's legendary training methods and style. Matt also studied under Luis Lagerman (another Angelo Dundee protegee). Luis was a big influence on the beginning of Matt's training career. Matt has worked with and trained a number of the top ranked boxers in the world.. Then on September 14, 2012 Matt got his 1st World Champion, WBC Featherweight Champion Melissa "Huracan Shark" Hernandez. Matt also is a former owner of Angelo Dundee's 5th Street Gym which was located in South Beach and is now being ran without the family's permission, Click here for more.
Matt has broadened his horizons by introducing his unique training methods into the octagon of MMA by working closely with WEF champion Pat Assalone. Matt also trains athletes from non-combative sports such as the NFL, NBA, Premier League Soccer, Indy Car Drivers, and top celebrities who simply want the benefits of Boxing training. Matt studied under Jeremy Fedoruk, the owner and creator of Athletic Enhancement Group (AEG), for strength and conditioning. With Fedoruk, Matt expanded his knowledge in training professional athletes and incorporated Olympic Baselifting to aid in the conditioning of his clients. Matt also attended the famed "Fitness Institute International." Highly elite fighters usually have a staff that includes both a boxing trainer and a conditioning coach. Anyone who comes to his gym, which was featured on HBO 24/7, will quickly find out that Matt is both your conditioning and boxing guy. Matt picked his combat psychology up from the Freud of boxing- Angelo Dundee. In addition to being able to understand how people tick and how to motivate to fighters, Matt's vast experience, attention to detail, and profound understanding of the physical demands of preparing for a fight makes him one of the most sought after trainers in the land.
